In Ape Escape 3, the Monkepedia returns, this time sorted by the TV programs airing on each level. Specter and The Freaky Monkey Five are absent from this version. In Ape Escape 2, the collection of monkey information begins to be referred to as the Monkepedia and for each individual monkey contains information on the level they appear in, their name, a personality trait, the monkey's means of attack, stats for alertness aggression speed stomach fullness, as well as their pants type and finally a phrase which the monkey is saying or thinking. The final level, which had the era name "Specter Land" and level name " Monkey Madness" in the NTSC-U/C version of Ape Escape, had those names swapped for On the Loose, so "Monkey Madness" is now the era, and "Specter Land" the level.Wabi Sabi Wall was renamed to "Tiki Tiki Wall".Sushi Temple was renamed to "Wabi Sabi Temple" to better reflect the Japanese name of the original level. Most of the levels use the NTSC-U/C names and eras, except for the "Futurama" era, which was given the PAL name "Present Day".Some monkeys have different stats, such as "Carl Eek-is" from Dark Ruins having 1 Attack point instead of 2.This game also lists the monkeys in a slightly different order, such as the "Triceratops wrangler" monkey being listed in the middle of Molten Lava instead of at the end.Unlike other games in the series, the NTSC-U/C and PAL versions of this game are largely in agreement over the names and descriptions, with much fewer differences between them.Spike only has access to one Gadget the Nuggetcher, which is able to suck up Monkey Pants. Casi: The AI assistant of the Professor.Recognized by their Pipo Helmets and unicolored pants. Pipo Monkeys: The common monkeys of the game series. His intelligence is increased by the Pipo Helmet. Specter: The evil monkey who attempted world domination.Professor: The Professor who invented the pipo helmet, the Virtual Space, and many other things.Natalie: The Professor's granddaughter that assists Spike on his journey.Spike: The red haired protagonist of the first game who defeated Specter. It's up to Spike to collect and wash all of the Monkey Pants. A sanitation check was determined to begin soon, and if the monkey pants were not clean by then, the Virtual Space would be taken down. However, the owner of Monkey Park reported the missing monkeys to the government. There are five stages to complete and a boss battle in each level, much like Pumped & Primed's layout.Īfter the events of Ape Escape, the Pipo Monkeys that Spike caught in the previous adventure were sent to a "Virtual Space" invented by the Professor.

The storyline is made in a similar style to Ape Escape: Pumped & Primed. It has 36 stages, while the original has only 19. It also featured more levels than the original game.
#APE ESCAPE MONKEY BOXING SERIES#
2001 was also the first game in the series to feature no other enemies than the apes. The graphics were slightly improved yet very similar to the original Ape Escape with the same symbols used throughout the game, such as the stage cleared symbol. Bomb tokens can also be collected to attack monkeys and bosses. While sucking the pants off of a monkey, the monkey can be fired into other monkeys to knock them out. The goal of each level is to use a vacuum cleaner to remove a required amount of pants off of the apes and put them into an oversized washing machine while preventing the monkeys from re-obtaining their shorts or attacking the player. The left analog stick on the DualShock Controller is used to control Spike's movement, but unlike the original game, the right analog stick is used only for power throw aiming and the face-buttons are used to attack. Ape Escape 2001's gameplay differs from the original Ape Escape gameplay outline.
